How do I plan for my portrait shoot?

There are many things to think about prior to your portrait session including

  • Destination of the photos
  • With whom you plan to share the images

Destination of Your Photos

  • Will you be hanging the images in your home?
    • If so, will it be as a stand-alone canvas print or will you hang a canvas collection?
    • What size canvas prints are you interested in displaying? What size canvas prints will fit your home properly?
    • If you are hanging a canvas collection, then what is the layout of the images? Will there be one horizontal canvas with two vertical canvases, vice-versa, or some other layout?
    • Do you want your canvas prints to match any of the colors in your room? If so, what are those key colors in your home, so that the photographer can help coordinate clothing.

Sharing Your Images

  • Who will you be sharing the images with?
    • Are these images intended to be used as wall art for your home?
    • Do you want to add these to your 8×10, 5×7, or 4×6 album that you already have?
    • Will you want wallets to share with family and friends you meet?
    • Do the grandparents want copies? Both sets of grandparents? What size images do they want? What about your children’s godparents?
    • Do you want copies to share with people on Facebook?
    • Are these images going to be used as graduation invitations, wedding save-the-date cards, or newborn baby announcements?
